Liberia: For most people & institutions here, the JNB Foundation is a great source of hope

For many living in this West African nation, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s JNB Foundation isn’t just a source of hope but rather an entity touching lives here while at the same time reviving the fate of so many institutions once on the brink of collapse.

When President Joseph Nyuma Boakai took power in January 2024, the entire public healthcare system of Liberia was near collapse, largely due to many years of neglect by previous administrations. The John F. Kennedy Hospital for example, had only a few old-fashioned incubators and those weren’t functional in most cases, according to nurses and doctors working at this hospital, the largest in the country.

But within ten months (exactly this November, last year), after President Boakai’s inauguration, senior staffers at the JFK Hospital were at the president’s charity Rehab headquarters, picking up at least ten high-tech incubators that had been set aside for them by the charity’s new boss, Hon. Jackson K. George Jr., a business owner himself who returned from the U.S. to help run this foundation. The donation came from a total of 20 incubators valued at U.S. $320,000 secured from foreign partners and donors.

In the months thereafter this charity again went ahead, making massive donations of assorted medical goods to both small and major hospitals throughout the country, including previously “hard-to-reach” places such as Grand Kru and Maryland in Southeast of Liberia. These giveaways included a fairly good number of modern dental and x-ray machines that were badly needed to help doctors and nurses operate at ease while still giving their patients the best of treatment.

Apart from Liberia’s healthcare sector, President Boakai’s charity has also made huge donations, mostly in the forms of tools, fertilizers, and also school materials to help boost the output of ministries like Agriculture and Education, all in line with the president’s national ARREST development agenda. Other areas touched by the entity’s work have been Sanitation, Environment, plus Women and Youths Empowerment.

For the most part, the more the foundation seeks local and outside help, the more donations pour in; and that too, has kept the foundation’s staff including its boss, Hon. George Jr., himself extremely busy. The last week in October for example, became one of our busiest periods, as Mr. George gave out tons of educational and medical products such as school chairs, benches, and medical beds to colleges, hospitals, plus a rehab center.

On Friday, October 31st, alone, two groups, the Queen Elizabeth Foundation of Johnsonville and Rev. Othello Menyon’s local ETR foundation received a set of donations each from JNB Foundation’s boss. They included, for QEF, 4 modern hospital beds, lab gowns, boxes of hand sanitizer, and a wheelchair while ETR of Rev. Menyon 50 school tables with 50 classroom chairs.

A day prior to these donations, Oct. 30th, UL Alumni Association President, Atty. Martin Wleh Pennie, too received 100 chairs with 50 tables for his organization, while representatives from Liberia Julue-Ta Interim Care Center went in on Oct. 29, 2025, collecting assorted goods consisting of wheelchairs, sanitary boxes plus a couple of steel beds and mattresses for use by their center which is located on GSA road in Paynesville.
The following is a pictorial depicting the presentation ceremonies, as captured by author James Kokulo Fasuekoi.

On Monday, November 3, JNB Foundation’s Executive Director Hon. Jackson K. George Jr. again made a presentation of 50 classroom chairs and 20 tables to Mrs. Veronica H. Fatorma, supervisor for Light Stream Academy near Congo Town, Liberia. Her school, she said, has an enrollment of over 400 students, describing this donation from President Jospeh Nyuma Boakai’s JNB Foundation as a great help to the institution.
