As donations of all kinds from both local and international entities pour into the JNB foundation
this March, including material gifts from friends of the president, one prominent Liberian, Hon.
Peter Z.N. Kamei stepped forward Thursday, March 5, making a thoughtful donation of about
two thousand pounds of seed rice.
Hon. Kamei is the board chairman for Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment and also
member of the Board of Directors of KYB Foundation, a charity own and run by the First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, Mrs. Kartumu Yarta Boakai. He said this donation worth about US $1,500 was his own way of identifying with the JNB F for its ongoing great works.
A farmer himself, Hon. Kamei said it was a part of his “tradition” to come and give a portion of
his first harvest to his parents (referring to both President Joseph Boakai, sr. and Madam Kartumu
Boakai) whom he said blessed him before saying, he still sees doing so as an obligation whether
or not he receives from his “parents.”
He abundantly praised President Boakai, Sr. for the great things he pointed out, “the President is
doing for our country.”
Rice remains the country’s staple diet thus prompting President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. to
place agriculture high on his ARREST Agenda, since taking power in January 2024, in a drive to
move his country toward attaining self-sufficiency in food production.
The Liberian statesman, more than any leader in post-war Liberia, continues to encourage mass
agricultural programs in the country while at the same time heavily supporting local farmers
through his foundation, with agro-products such as modern fertilizer and farm implements so
they can grow more food.
The donation could not have come than this March-April, the main rice-planting season, the time
in Liberia when early farmers start to burn and clear farms, ready to start planting rice. This is
the same time seed rice is highly in demand and for this donation; Hon. George, Jr. said scores of
small holder farmers are already waiting for this gift.
Hon. George promised to share a copy of the expected distribution process with Hon. Kamei as
soon they are finished with distribution.
