JNB Foundation helps Gbarpolu group of farmers with new “game-changer” fertilizers

Hon. Jackson K. George Jr. (R) presents a donation Thursday to the Track Farmers Corporation of Gbarma, Gbarpolu County.

A group of crop farmers from Gbarma District, Gbarpolu County, one of Liberia’s highest food producing regions, Thursday received fertilizers donation from the JNB Foundation that will cover over 700 acres of farmland. The farmers collected 15 cartoons of ROKO NANO UREA & another 15 of ROKO NANO DAP, with a single cartoon containing 24 cans or bottles. These two brands, scientists say, are a “game changer” in this age, and that’s because their chemical composition helps protect crops against bugs, and yield more food for users.

Close to 20 local farmers from the Gbarma area in Gbarpolu, working under the umbrella of the Track Farmers Corporation in Dewah Clan will benefit from Thursday’s donation by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s charity. The group’s leader, Mr. Jerry T. Taylor, who received the donation on behalf of the organization, currently works with up to 16 local agro-companies engaged in farming businesses, many of them Cocoa, Coffee, Rice, Plantain and Cassava growers.

A couple of these farmers also grow Avocados, Oranges, Cashews, and Monkey Apples, Palms and Sugar Cane. These are aside from individuals’ cattle and fowl barns. Mr. Taylor was escorted by the followings who owned their separate farming businesses in this region as well; Chris C. Bull, co-owner Amaris Farms Inc., Grace Scotland Briamah, of Women Empowerment for Self-Employment (WE4SELF), and Mafereh Farms owner, Stephen T. Johns.

Because ROKO NANO UREA & ROKO NANO DAP are both sophisticated and also new to Liberia, Jerry Taylor requested the foundations executive director Hon. Jackson K. George Jr. to assist his farmers with training so they can get maxima benefit from planting-that’s because, farmers may not get the desired outcome if they fail to use the two products properly. The foundation’s boss consented to make training available for them, even if virtual, and promised he would visit the region, assess further needs for farmers and seek more assistance for them.

Thursday’s presentation forms part of a series of the ROKO NANO UREA & ROKO NANO DAP fertilizers giveaway exercise by the president’s charity since it received the shipment from its partners last September. In addition, it’s all part of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s national goal to empower local farmers who would intern grow their own local staples thus letting this country cut down drastically on imported rice into Liberia.
